Margaret Hamilton

Birth: August 17th, 1936

Major Academic Events: She studied mathematics and philosophy while she atteneded Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. She planned to continue her studies at Brandeis University, however she accepted a job from Massachusetts Institute of Technology instead. While working at MIT she did some postgraduate work while studying meteorology.

Elizabeth Feinler

Birth: March 2, 1931

Major Academic Events: She got her undergraduate degrere from West Liberty State College. She also recieved her PhD in biochemistry from Purdue Universtiy. Making her the first one in her family to go to college and and to earn their PhD.

Contributions to Computer Science: she helped pioneer and invent the ARPANET, which was the first form of the modern day internet. Her and her group also helped to develop the top level domain naming system which includes .com, .gov, .org, .edu, etc. This system that they created is still in use today which is really amazing considering all of the other advancements that have come through these years.

Alan Turing

Birth: June 23, 1912 Birth: June 7, 1954

Major Academic Events: He attended a top private school as a child. He then studied at the University of Cambridge and studied mathematics. After Cambridge he attended King's College and he studied probability theory there.

Contributions to Computer Science: He is known as the father of modern computer science. This is because he created the first computer. This was known as the Turning Machine. This is a mathematical machine that famously used the binary system. This was the first use of it that then led to all modern day computers.
